Older kids will prefer a larger option

Though the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids isn’t the least expensive tablet option from the company, that would be the Fire 7 Kids; it is currently $40 more but offers far more value in its capabilities which is why it is one of our favorite Android tablets for kids. No matter which Amazon tablet you buy for your child’s, all will offer the same software options. The differences in performance are due to the screen size and internal hardware.

The Fire HD 8 Children’s 8-inch HD screen is perfect for younger children. As your child learns to read, the display’s clarity will help. The rubberized foam case gives the tablet a lot of grip. The built-in kickstand is available for those occasions when the screen needs to be propped up to view educational programs. The latest Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Pro model was reviewed by us. It is identical hardware to the regular Kids model but has different case options and slightly differing software. You can find the full guide to these differences here.

The improved internal specifications over the smaller Fire 7 Kids will make sure that not only will the Fire HD 8 Kids handle everything your younger child could want right now, but it will also likely last for the next few years too. The tablet comes with Amazon Kids+ software, which you can set as the child grows. The tablet will be replaced if it becomes damaged or defective within two years.

In 2021, Amazon updated its Fire HD 10 tablet, which meant that the kid’s version got a bump too. Amazon added a Pro edition to all its tablets for kids, along with improved hardware. This change makes the Amazon HD 10 Kid Pro an excellent choice for older kids. With the Pro moniker, you have new options for cases and a new dashboard that kids can use to access the tablet. There are also expanded content options.

Starting on the outside of the tablet, you have a 10.1-inch full-HD display with the new, slimmed-down case. It is lighter than the Amazon Fire Kids tablet’s standard case and offers two design options. It has a built in kickstand and cutouts for the USB-C port.

The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro has the most power of all the kid’s tablets from Amazon, with enough horsepower to handle any task your child throws at it. Unfortunately, it only has 32GB of internal storage, but it can be expanded with up to 2TB with a microSD card.

The Pro comes with new cases and a different content library than other Fire Kids tablets. Access to more apps and a filter version of the internet will be available for your child from Amazon App Store. You will still be able to control the apps and internet via the Parental Dashboard. New app installations and websites will need your approval. Google Play Services is the only thing that older children may need, but almost everything else is available and in place.

If you are looking for a smart speaker for your child, the two most important things are parental controls and kid-specific content. Let’s add another. That’s because it looks like this. The Amazon Echo Dot Kids has the same sound quality as the regular Echo Dot with Clock and provides access to Alexa. Both models came with larger speakers in 2022, and a variety of other features. Amazon Kids+ is not available for the regular Echo Dot, which is very important.

This is because you can set up safety nets about what the speaker will say and what your child can do with Alexa. You can also set quiet times so that Alexa doesn’t wake your child up at night.

Amazon has done an amazing job creating engaging experiences for children with interactive games and audiobooks with their favorite characters. The new Amazon Echo Dot Kids has two adorable new designs, the Owl and Dragon. They will look great in children’s bedrooms and playrooms.

Speaker quality is just “OK”

In many cases, the inclusion of a display on a smart speaker is super beneficial. It provides additional context for Alexa’s responses and also gives you a visual cue that the speaker has heard your voice. You can also view all photos and videos on the screen, as well as potential video calls.

Although the thought of a connected camera in your child’s room is scary, Amazon has a physical shutter for Echo Show 5 Kids that can block it. You can still check in on your child via the parental controls, and you can also have video chats. The parental dashboard lets you set who can make calls to and from the speaker.

The screen offers more ways for your child, including access to Amazon Kids+ content. The Echo Show 5 Kids’ colorful screen offers a variety of animations and videos.
