The two tablets differ in three categories: size, resolution, and the amount of expandable storage. These differences may seem small, but they are crucial for usability.
Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids vs. Fire HD 8 Kids: How do these differences matter?

You might think that bigger is better — right? It all depends on the situation. To start with, the Fire HD 10 Kids has a 10.1-inch display, whereas the Fire HD 8 Kids has an 8-inch screen.
The Fire HD 10 is large and can be great for watching movies or games that come included with the one year of Amazon Kids+ on each of these tablets. The bulky case for children makes the large screen even more impressive. You could remove the case, but you won’t because this is an expensive device that you will be using often with your children. This big tablet could be difficult to manage unless the child using the Fire HD 10 Kids is older with larger hands. The newer tablet is smaller and may be worth the additional investment.
Smaller hands may have difficulty using the large screen.
This is why the 8 inch model might be more appealing. Though the display on the larger model does have a slightly higher resolution (1920×1200), the 1280×800 display on the Fire HD 8 Kids still looks excellent. The tablet’s size is still manageable even with the foam case.
While both of these tablets only have 32GB of built-in storage, each can also be expanded with an extra 1TB, thanks to the microSD slot. Your little one won’t run out of storage space, so they will never be bored. Although you don’t need to have a terabyte of storage, it can be a great option for long trips and other situations when the internet is not available.
Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids vs. Fire HD 8 Kids: What features do you get?

Because these are Kids tablets from Amazon, they come with some of the industry’s best parental controls and kid’s content. Amazon Kids+ is included with every Kids Fire tablet purchase. If you’re a Prime member, it costs only $3 per month. It costs $5 per month if not. Parents can limit tablet and app usage as well as determine what content is allowed through the parental controls.
Amazon Kids+ is an age-specific library of curated content for kids with over 20,000 books, movies, TV shows, apps, and games. You can set the content age range that your child will be able to access through parental controls. You can also set goals for when your child can access the “fun stuff” on their tablet. For my son, I require at least 30 minutes of reading before he can access the games and videos. Each tablet comes with a 2-year warranty that is worry-free and will be replaced if it gets damaged. Although the tablet case is quite tough, Amazon will replace your device if necessary.
These tablets also come in versions for older children, which Amazon calls Pro models. We’ve reviewed the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro and new Fire HD 8 Kids Pro, and they are both excellent devices. The Pro name, unlike devices for adults isn’t an upgrade in hardware but rather a thinner case with a more “little kid-like interface”. This guide also covers a few other features.
Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids vs. Fire HD 8 Kids: Bottom line
When considering the Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids vs. Fire HD 8 Kids, both are great options for young ones. Both have Dolby Atmos support and dual-speakers. They also feature fast processors, USB charging and a headphone socket. All of this works in conjunction with the Amazon services and warranty. The larger tablet will offer better performance than the Fire HD 8 Kids’ 2GB RAM.
However, the Fire HD 8 Kids tablet is best for families. The Fire HD 8 Kids offers the same features and performance as the larger model, while also saving you money. Because it isn’t too heavy for small hands, the Fire HD will be easier to use for most children.
The Fire HD 10 Kids may work best for your family’s needs if you have an older child who could handle the larger screen and will make use of the higher performance capabilities. If media consumption is your primary purpose for the device, the higher resolution screen may be beneficial.
Both of these options are excellent choices for your child. Just note that the highly durable cases on these devices are also quite bulky ,so that big 10.1-inch tablet will be much larger with the case on.
In size, not performanceThe Fire HD 8 Kids tablet’s 8-inch screen is perfect for children. It offers great performance and easy useability. Amazon Kids+ and a 2-year warranty will make your child happy.
Going big
With a full HD 10.1-inch display and fantastic content options from Amazon Kids+, the Fire HD 10 Kids is ready for hours of entertainment and performance to ensure it never slows down.
